About the Green Innovation (GI) Fund Project
The Green Innovation (GI) Fund, an unprecedented 2 trillion yen fund, has been established at NEDO by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) and related ministries and agencies to realize Japan’s declaration of “carbon neutrality by 2050” by 2020. The GI Fund aims to encourage companies to take on ambitious challenges in order to create a virtuous cycle between the economy and the environment.
The GI Fund project has identified 14 priority fields that are expected to grow in the future, and the consortium including UJ-Crystal Inc. has been selected as one of these fields for “construction of next-generation digital infrastructure/development of wafer technology for next-generation power semiconductors” and is proceeding with research and development with full cooperation from the government. The consortium is now conducting research and development with the full cooperation of the government.

Professor at the Future Electronics Integration Research Center, Institute for Future Materials and Systems, Ujihara has been involved in research and development of SiC solution growth method for many years as a pioneer in the field. UJ-Crystal is his third venture company.

Engaged in SiC R&D since his university days. After graduating from graduate school, he worked at a venture company and then engaged in SiC R&D at a major device manufacturer. For many years, he has had a passionate desire to “stop global warming” and joined UJ-Crystal when it was established.
